I heard you like AI, so I’m going to walk through how to prompt AI to prompt AI. Before we get into it, if you’re unfamiliar here are the basics:

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an advanced artificial intelligence program that can have a text conversation with you, like a friendly chat buddy who never sleeps and is always watching you.

Midjourney

Midjourney is an image generator on Discord that uses AI to create high-quality, customizable images based on specific prompts, letting you direct your own photoshoots.

Both of these tools are advancing pretty fast. You can see above, that horrifying, kill-it-with-fire creature was what was generated for “Baby Yoda” when Midjourney v1 was released (February 2022). You can also see how much more advanced it is in Midjourney v5 (May 2023), and even more so in recent months with the leaps-forward v5.2 (June 2023).

Experimentation Mindset

It’s worth mentioning that while these tools are advancing at a rapid pace, you still need patience and an experimentation mindset. You’ll still often get images that aren’t anything like what you input, or see a person with 3 legs (see below…), or 6 fingers. The key to success is to just keep trying different things, re-run the prompts as much as you like, or try tweaking the input sentence slightly.

The basic principals here should apply to any prompt-based AI input. ChatGPT and Midjourney are currently the best bets for this, however over time you should be able to replace ChatGPT with another chat AI, or adapt this guide to another AI image generator like Adobe Firefly, and achieve similar results.

Stylize --stylize <number>, or --s <number> parameter influences how strongly Midjourney's default aesthetic style is applied to Jobs.
Aspect ratio --ar The --aspect or --ar parameter changes the aspect ratio of the generated image. An aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of an image. It is typically expressed as two numbers separated by a colon, such as 7:4 or 4:3. A square image has equal width and height, described as a 1:1 aspect ratio. The image could be 1000px × 1000px, or 1500px × 1500px, and the aspect ratio would still be 1:1. A computer screen might have a ratio of 16:10. The width is 1.6 times longer than the height. So the image could be 1600px × 1000px, 4000px × 2000px, 320px x 200px, etc. Different Midjourney Version Models have different maximum aspect ratios.
